Ruth Maynard Soule Taylor was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and attended the Winsor School. She graduated magna cum laude from Radcliffe College, class of 1903. While at Radcliffe she was active in athletics and dramatics and belonged to the Idler and Emmanual Clubs. She served as treasurer, vice-president, and president of the Idler Club.
